The board meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Pledge of allegiance was recited. All board members were present along with 7 residents.
Motion by Supervisor Groy to adopt the agenda as given which was seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion passed.
Minutes of the 8/8/23 meeting were read. Motion to accept the minutes as read by Supervisor Groy, seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s report given. Motion to accept the report as given by Supervisor Groy and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
Recycling report for August were 15.24 tons of garbage and 3.63 tons of recyclables.
There were 6 building permits and 5 fire signs for the month of August. Razing of 24x30 and rebuild 24x42 on River Road; 24x50 2 story on County Z; razing of 20x40 and building of 52x40 detached garage on County Z; 14x40 addition to shed on County Z; 10x16 shed on Ring Lane; 30x44 1 story dwelling on Trout Haven Road; two fire numbers on Tower Line Road; one each on Butterfield Lane, Ring Lane and Sand Road.
Tax Collection Agreement with Marinette County was reviewed. The cost is the same as last year. Motion to approve agreement by Supervisor Groy and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
Fence Ordinance updated so that residential fences do not need a variance and included size requirements. Motion to approve the updates by Supervisor Groy and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
Equipment bids were opened. There were 2 loader bids and 1 truck bid. Motion to accept Scott Morin’s bid on Dresser Loader of $8177.00 by Supervisor Wagner and seconded by Supervisor Groy. Motion carried. Motion to accept Shangrila Airfield’s truck bid of $2000.00 by Supervisor Groy and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
Discussion of ongoing road improvement projects included that the crew has been hauling gravel and has put gravel on some roads. There was an issue with new asphalt being torn up on Crowe Road the night it was finished. This was reported to the sheriff’s department and has been fixed. A culvert was replaced on Trout Haven Road. Next will be wedging so that it can be chip sealed next year.
Correspondence included a permit to draw down Beecher Lake to help kill milfoil and a subgrant of $87.31 was received for new absentee envelopes.
Public comments included: the crew fixed the door on the outhouse but the locking mechanism is not lined up so the door is currently open. There was some discussion on possibly renting a porta potty so that we would not need to deal with the issue any longer. Ken Hanson, county supervisor, mentioned that County Z will not be done this year as planned but will be done in 2024. There was also discussed a road signal sign on Sand Road but nothing has been done on that yet. Chairman Younglove mentioned that the town is required by law to do a reassessment in 2024.
Motion to approve bills in the amount of $55,802.44 by Chairman Younglove and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried.
The next meeting will be October 10th at 6:00 p.m. Motion to adjourn meeting by Supervisor Groy and seconded by Supervisor Wagner. Motion carried and meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
